We measure TAPPI (or GE) brightness using a Technidyne S-4 Brightimeter, which measures brightness in accordance with TAPPI test method T-452. We also use a Hunter D-25A Colorimeter, which measures both brightness and shade.
We have a Hunter ColorQuest XE spectrophotometer with diffuse lighting and an integrating sphere for ISO brightness measurement. It includes a UV filter so it can measure the effect of optical brighteners. This instrument will also measure both shade and brightness.
