CORE VALUES

Our Mission is to help our customers improve the predictability of their paper, paperboard, or converted product. Improved product predictability leads to increased profitability for our customers, their customers, and their suppliers as well.

Objectivity and Independence is critical to our mission. We work to test, evaluate, interpret, and report the facts frankly and honestly in order to maximize our value to our customers. At times it is difficult for an in-house technical services group to be completely objective, especially when there are competing points of view.

PREDICTABILITY is the most important product characteristic. We help paper and paperboard manufacturers improve the predictability of both their process and their products.

PROFIT follows PREDICTABILITY for paper and paperboard products.

ABOUT APPLIED PAPER TECHNOLOGY, INC.

Applied Paper Technology, Inc. had its beginning in the late 1980’s when Mead Coated Board formed an in-house technical services group, known as the Mead Coated Board Technical Institute. This group worked with customers and end-users on issues related to printing, converting, scoring, die cutting filling line operations, beverage carrier performance, and folding carton performance. Naturally there was a great emphasis on beverage carriers, since this represented such a significant part of the Mead business. The heart of the physical facility was a paper-testing laboratory, maintained at TAPPI standard conditions.

In March 1997, the technical services group was spun off. Vann Parker and the Mead employees in the existing facility formed a new company, Applied Paper Technology, Inc. The independent company continues to provide technical services for MeadWestvaco, but it also provides services for over 200 other companies. Typical customers for this service include manufacturers of paper and paperboard, printers, converters of paper products, and end-users who use paper and paperboard in their products or to package their products.
